Room Switcheroo

When we moved into our home a little over a year ago, we put the 3 youngest girls in one of the smaller rooms in the house. Mostly due to the fact that the largest room only had half a closet because of the water heater being in the other half. After a year of making it work, I decided a change needed to be made, and we tackled moving brother’s room to the girl’s and vice versa.

I hadn’t painted the brown room yet either, so it was fun to pick out a color that would go best with what I had for the girl’s room. I chose Behr asphalt gray…

I love neutral colors and I have neutrals all throughout the house, but I wanted something a bit darker for this room and love how it turned out. I find it quite satisfying to paint a room. It is an inexpensive way to give a room an uplift no matter the situation you find it in. For this room switcheroo my funds were at $30, so I knew that paint was the only change being made for the moment. I had a home depot gift card too, so that helped get a great paint. Behr is definitely my favorite. I only used 1/2 a gallon for this entire room!

I still need to paint the book cabinet, but in time it will happen. 😉
The closet is still half the size, but I have room to put both dressers in here for the girls so that helped in this storage department. And, the two youngest are the only ones who have hang up clothes and shoes in this closet, so it works out perfectly.

Simple groupings and decorations tend to go a long way in my style now, so I love to make do with what we’ve got. Larger signs or pictures tend to feel and look less cluttered. I just grabbed a few pieces of underlayment boards from my laundry faux ship lap wall project and hung their abc sign on top so it would pop off the dark gray wall a bit better.
The bunk beds are definitely not as squished into the room as they were in the last and there’s even extra space too. Any other moms out there have white bedding throughout their whole house? It is my absolute favorite!
I found this cute wooden door with metal like backing at an antique store several months ago. It hung in our master bathroom with a wreath hanging in front for quite awhile. But, I replaced it with a super cute old screen door so this beauty needed a new home. When I saw how it looked on the gray wall I was pretty excited to have a new place for our hair bows.
The best part about this room being changed is the extra space it gives for my little princesses imagination to develop. The dress up is stored in a cute chevron basket in the left corner. The dollhouse I found at Goodwill for $12.21 (post on that coming soon) sits on a cute gray and white bench for easy access to play behind. The kitchen set I redid for our 2 year old has plenty of space to cook and bake for the crowds.
I will share a post on our son’s room soon!
